CUCF Release Routes

Central Utah Correctional Facility, commonly called CUCF, is operated by the Utah Department of Corrections at 255 East 300 North in Gunnison. Gunnison is in Sanpete County. The facility is not located in Juab County, and “Central Utah” should not be read as a county designation. It serves the statewide prison system and can hold sentenced UDC prisoners whose legal records remain with UDC and the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.

Release from CUCF may mean parole into the community, full termination or expiration of the sentence, placement in a community correctional center, or a handoff under another agency’s authority. The last path is a transfer, even when UDC records close a prison-custody event. The Board order, current UDC status, and any receiving-agency record distinguish these outcomes.

UDC’s general release procedure routes most state releases and paroles through the Utah State Correctional Facility Release building in Salt Lake City. A person housed at CUCF may therefore move before the final release process. Departure from Gunnison alone does not establish community release.

Confirm a CUCF Release

Begin with the UDC Offender Search. It includes people currently incarcerated by UDC and those currently on UDC probation or parole. It is not a historical list of every former prisoner. The search does not cover an ordinary pretrial Juab County Jail detainee who has not entered state custody.

1. Choose a name search or offender-number search. A name search requires at least one letter of both the first and last name.
2. Open the matching record and compare identifiers. Similar names can lead to the wrong status.
3. Read the exact legal-status, housing, and parole or release-date wording displayed in the current record.
4. Search the Board’s hearing and decision system. Open the decision or order, not merely the calendar entry.
5. Recheck UDC on or after the operative date and follow any named transfer or supervision agency.

A parolee has left prison but remains under a sentence and conditions. A fully terminated former offender may no longer appear because the public tool is limited to current UDC incarceration or supervision. If a known state record is missing, check spelling and the UDC number, then request the specific record from UDC.

CUCF Gunnison Hearing Records

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole uses a Gunnison hearing calendar. Its live-hearing information says the Gunnison stream generally runs on Tuesdays, while Salt Lake hearing-location streams generally run Monday through Thursday. This schedule identifies a location and usual cadence. It does not promise that any named person will appear on a given day.

Use the Board search for hearings and decisions by first and last name, offender number, or date range. Known aliases may match. Pop-ups may need to be enabled to view results. An upcoming result is not a release order. Search again for the later decision.

Board decisions are generally not issued on the hearing day. A listed date can therefore coexist with no final result. If exact status must be verified, call the Board at 801-261-6464 and compare its answer with the current UDC record.

CUCF Release Dates and Status

The UDC public landing page does not promise a field literally called “Projected Release Date.” UDC’s release instructions refer to a “Parole/Release date.” Preserve the label shown on the live record. A future date is prospective and can change. It should not be described as an actual release until the date passes and the responsible agency confirms the event.

Utah uses indeterminate terms for many prison sentences. The court imposes a range, and the Board decides how long the person serves within its authority and applicable minimums. There is no valid universal 85-percent calculation. The judgment, offense date, governing statute, minimum term, Board action, and sentence structure all matter.

Earned-time credit can change a date for a qualifying prisoner. UDC describes four-month cuts for completion of approved case-action-plan programs, up to eight months for two qualifying programs, subject to limits and Board application. Discipline, new charges, rescission, release-plan conditions, detainers, sentence corrections, and concurrent or consecutive terms may also alter the date.

Parole

End of the specified sentence or supervision status.

Rescission

Board action that can take back a granted release date before departure.

Detainer

Authority or request for another agency to receive the person.

CUCF Records and Contact

Use the facility address to identify the correct institution, then route record questions through UDC. No verified CUCF facility phone or public records hours were documented in the Juab research. Omitting those details avoids sending a caller to an unverified number. The official UDC contact directory supplies the current agency route and records portal.

For a focused request, provide the name, UDC number if known, and a relevant date range. Ask for the specific release, parole, transfer, termination, or discharge record. UDC identifies legal status, housing, sentence details, Board dates, parole or termination dates, commitment date, court, and case number as information that may be available, but not every field is promised online or in every disclosed record.

Juab and CUCF Release Differences

A person in Juab County Jail may be a local detainee or a UDC state prisoner housed under contract. The first person’s release is checked with the sheriff, a GRAMA request, and the correct court. The second person’s release follows the same UDC and Board path used for CUCF. Physical location does not change which sovereign controls the sentence.

A movement from Juab to CUCF, or from CUCF to USCF, is an intrastate custody move unless an official record says otherwise. The source building can report that the person left while UDC still confines the person. Use the Juab County release search paths to identify the governing system before making calls.

Utah VINE can provide notices for documented UDC events. UDC warns against sole reliance, and the Board currently warns that notices can be inaccurate or missing. An alert triggers verification. Silence proves nothing.

CUCF Release Destination Checks

Once UDC confirms departure, identify the exact destination. “Released to parole” means community supervision continues. Placement in a community correctional center may involve structured custody or supervision. “Released to detainer” means another authority took over. A sentence termination may end UDC authority but does not automatically resolve a separate case or warrant.

If parole follows, UDC Adult Probation and Parole is the supervising division. Juab County is served by AP&P Region 4 in Richfield, not a standalone Nephi office. The public UDC search can confirm current parole or probation status, but protected notes, home addresses, and individual officer details should not be expected.

If another custodian receives the person, move to that system. Federal custody may require the Bureau of Prisons locator, U.S. Marshals information, and a federal court docket. Immigration custody requires the ICE current locator and, separately, EOIR for court status. Preserve the source language and do not shorten a transfer into the word “released.”

Documenting a CUCF Release

Keep a short source log. Record the date and time of each search or call, the office contacted, the exact status wording, and the decision or case number. This prevents a future status update from obscuring what the source showed earlier. It also helps distinguish a planned date from an event that was later completed.

Use two independent layers when possible. The custodial layer is UDC. The legal layer is the Board order or court judgment. A receiving-agency record adds a third layer when custody continues elsewhere. VINE is useful for notice, but it is not a substitute for either primary source.

A careful conclusion may state that a person “was no longer shown at CUCF and remained in UDC custody,” “was released from prison to parole,” or “reached sentence termination.” Each is more accurate than a broad claim that the person was simply free.
