ICE Custody Release Routes

ICE civil immigration custody is a separate system from Juab County criminal detention, Utah state prison custody, and federal BOP sentences. The official source set identified no ICE detention center in Juab County, so the record path concerns a federal system rather than a local physical facility.

A Juab detainee may leave the jail because ICE or another federal authority receives the person. That event ends the sheriff’s housing episode but is not community release. A person may later be released from ICE custody under conditions, transferred to another detention site, removed from the United States, or remain in proceedings outside detention. Each outcome needs its own proof.

Check Current ICE Detention

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System searches for a person currently in ICE custody or in qualifying Customs and Border Protection custody for more than 48 hours. It is not a historical archive of released detainees. It also does not search children under 18.

1. Use the nine-digit A-number and country of birth when available. Add leading zeros if the A-number has fewer than nine digits.
2. Otherwise use the biographical search and enter names carefully as they appear in official records.
3. Compare the result with the Juab transfer date and receiving-agency wording.
4. If there is no match, check spelling, data timing, transfer, and whether the person falls outside the locator’s scope.
5. Check EOIR separately for immigration-court status, then contact the responsible custodian for release confirmation.

No result cannot prove release. It may reflect release, transfer, a short custody episode, delayed data, spelling mismatch, or a person outside the searchable group. State only what the locator actually establishes.

Juab ICE Transfer Records

When the ICE path begins at Juab County Jail, call the jail at 435-623-1344 Option 2 and ask whether the named person remains housed. If the person left, ask whether the event was release or transfer. Staff may limit details. The durable bridge is a Sheriff Records request through Option 3 and the official GRAMA form.

Ask for the booking and custody record, out date and time if maintained, release or transfer type, and receiving agency. Include the person’s name, date range, and case or booking number when known. The records officer controls classification, redaction, and disclosure. A narrow request makes the custody handoff easier to identify.

ICE Release Versus EOIR Status

The EOIR automated case information system concerns immigration-court proceedings. It does not track physical detention. A pending court case does not prove ICE custody, and release from ICE does not end the court case. The EOIR hotline is 1-800-898-7180.

These systems can show different but consistent facts. ICE may no longer list the person while EOIR shows a pending hearing. Conversely, an ICE detention result may exist before the court system displays a later filing. Record the access date for each source because both status and scheduling can change.

A-number

A request or authority for another agency to hold or transfer a person.

Removal proceedings

Immigration-court process that is separate from physical detention.

Conditional release

Departure from detention subject to immigration requirements rather than case closure.

ICE System Contact Route

No local ICE facility address, phone, or public hours were verified for Juab County. Do not invent a local office or send visitors to the county jail after ICE has received the person. Use the official locator, EOIR system, and the receiving-facility information supplied by the responsible agency.

State Prison ICE Transfers

An immigration transfer can also follow Utah state-prison custody. Utah Code §64-13-10.7 requires UDC, in specified cases involving a covered inmate not lawfully present and completing a felony term, to notify federal authorities in advance and coordinate the required custody transfer. This rule illustrates why one agency’s release can become another agency’s intake.

For a UDC prisoner, first confirm the Board order and current UDC status. Then follow the federal receiving agency. A parole or termination date does not prove community release if an immigration transfer is required. Likewise, a Juab contract-bed prisoner may first move to the Utah State Correctional Facility for processing before any federal handoff.

Utah VINE may notify users about covered UDC events, but it is not proof of ICE custody. UDC says not to depend on VINE alone, and the Board warns that notices may be inaccurate or missing. Verify with each agency in sequence.

Document an ICE Release

Use a custody timeline. Start with the Juab jail departure or UDC release record, add the named receiving agency, then record the ICE locator result and EOIR case status. Note the date and time of every search or call. Exact language such as “transferred to ICE,” “not currently found in the ICE locator,” or “released from ICE custody” is more reliable than a broad statement.

ICE does not provide the kind of durable former-inmate result available from BOP. A historic release may therefore require agency records and the immigration court file. No official Juab recent-release list can substitute for that work.

ICE and Criminal Case Records

The local or state criminal case may explain why custody first began, but it does not decide federal immigration detention. Search the proper Juab court for the criminal disposition and use federal immigration sources for the later custody. A dismissal or time-served order can coexist with an ICE transfer.

Federal BOP custody is also distinct. The BOP locator concerns federal criminal sentences, while the ICE locator concerns civil immigration detention. U.S. Marshals custody covers many federal pretrial detainees. Choose the system based on the receiving agency rather than the building where the person was last seen.

A strong confirmation uses the custodial record and the legal record. The Juab County released inmate search provides the broader decision tree. For an immigration transfer, the key chain is sheriff or UDC record, ICE current status, and EOIR case information.

When results differ, build the timeline without making one source stand in for another. Record the local out date, the named receiving agency, the ICE search date, and the EOIR update. A gap may reflect processing time or a custody stage outside a locator's scope. Ask the responsible agency for the missing segment and report only the status it confirms.

Corrections belong with the source that owns the field. Sheriff Records addresses the Juab event, ICE controls its locator data, and EOIR controls court information. The A-number, date checked, and exact displayed wording help the correct office locate an error.
